About this event

Description: The military draft originated during the Revolutionary War when colonies conscripted militia members. The first national draft legislation appeared in 1862 during the Civil War. Subsequent Selective Service Acts in 1917, 1940, 1948, and 1967 established frameworks for conscripting men during times of war.
