Archive Special Interest Group

SIG Leader: Michele LeTourneur
Email: archivesig@fxgs.org

Purpose:

The Archive Special Interest Group (Archive SIG) provides hands-on experience actively archiving our own family's genealogical treasures. The group will bring documents, photographs, books and scrapbooks to in-person meetings to assess, prepare and store these documents.

In addition to meeting in person, we will meet together virtually to discuss material storage, digitizing, digital file management, home storage solutions and future proofing strategies. For those interested in learning but cannot meet in person, this is a great way to learn about preservation strategies to incorporate in your home practice.

Meetings:   Meetings are held on the fourth Tuesday of the month between September and May from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on a rotating schedule; generally 1 month via Zoom and 2 months in person. Zoom links will be posted on the event calendar listing.  For the meeting person, meetings are held at the Fairfax City Regional Library in Study Room 214. For virtual meetings, Zoom links will be posted on the event calendar. The SIG is open to members and non-member guest participants.

Program Schedule: Generally our topics are driven by the interests of the group members. Topics range from open discussion to presentations by regular group members and invited outside speakers. The meeting schedule and current topics for the year are listed below in Upcoming Events.
